Finally got a chance to scan and post this group of images from a trip I made south in November 2011. Perhaps not the tightest series I've shot but I am content with several of these frames. As a bonus, I unintentionally discovered the absolute contrast limits of my preferred B&W film stock, Kodak Tri-X.

A New Lens - A New Series
The Lens: For a while now I have been hoping to add the Canon 35mm f1.4 prime lens to my 5D package and while on a recent trip to New York & Philadelphia I picked one up from the awesome B&H superstore. For me, the field of view of a 35mm lens with a full-frame camera is ideal. It's perfect for isolating people or objects while still being wide enough to maintain the environments that surround them. This lens, when shot at f1.4, is very sharp at the plane of focus but has a beautiful focus fall-off giving really great out of focus backgrounds. This 35mm is still not as perfect as my favourite lens, the Summicron 35mm f2 for the Leica Rangefinder system, but it's the best lens I've used in the digital world.
The Series: What better way to test this new lens out than a walk through the West Village in Manhattan taking a Sartorialist inspired survey of all the vintage and retro fashion bicycles laced up to street posts along the way. So many great bikes, some forgotten while others are obviously still well loved.

City in Spring
With the cherry blossoms in full bloom the last few weeks here in Vancouver, I figured it would be another good opportunity to explore the slim boundary between the groomed landscapes and gardens found in the city and the concrete, construction & architecture that surround it.

I am fascinated by the intersection between the wilderness that surrounds us here in Vancouver and the constant crawl of development and human activity pushing it back. More to come...

Vancouver 2010 Olympics
I have been attempting to get out and grab photographs that capture some of the energy and excitement surrounding the Olympics being hosted here in Vancouver. It's busy out there and people are having a really great time. Here are a few of the images I managed to find.

Georgia St. Viaduct Vancouver
This series of images I recently photographed focuses on the Georgia & Dunsmuir St. Viaducts which effectively dissect downtown Vancouver into at least four separate parts. Some debate has emerged of late discussing the possible disassembly of the viaduct in order to re-appropriate the valuable real estate that surrounds it, while also hoping to reconnect the communities it currently isolates.

Spain in Kodachrome
While travelling around Spain in June 2009 I shot a roll of one of my favourite film stocks, Kodachrome. Here are 12 of the best frames from that trip.

100mm Macro
A good friend at work recently let me borrow his 100mm Macro Canon lens so I decided to test it out with some tight detail images. The subject matter at hand was a large backlot film set we have been shooting on of late. Either our Art Department or the set decorators from the previous film that shot here have done a pretty awesome job of creating very natural graffiti, signage and real-world deterioration of the fake building facades.

Lynn Valley Library
We were recently filming up in North Vancouver at the old Lynn Valley library which apparently has been converted into a makeshift film studio as it awaits probable demolition. These images focus on the intersection between the derelict buildings and the constantly advancing wilderness that surrounds it and the nearby Lynn Valley Centre.

Morgan Creek
I recently found myself in South Surrey and shot this series of images at a new subdivision development in Morgan Creek. I think I am interested in the slim boundaries between groomed, developed landscapes and the rougher, less controlled nature that surrounds it.

Granville St. Construction
Anyone living here in Vancouver knows Granville Street has been torn up for months. Construction is almost complete but this series attempts to document a moment in the city's history where one of its oldest and most historic streets looked like something out of the old west. One thing in particular that struck me was how the construction and removal of the lovely trees that once lined the street actually allowed locals a rare glimpse at the incredible architecture that had previously been somewhat hidden from the busy street.

Main St. Vancouver Pt.2
I decided I should probably have another crack at the Main St Vancouver photography competition. I have been shooting a lot of black and white film of late and figured there wasn't any better way to explore the texture of one of Vancouver's most vibrant streets.

Main St. Vancouver Pt.1
This is a series of images that focus on the Main St. neighborhood here in Vancouver. I shot these in order to take part in a photographic competition inspired by the work of Vancouver photographer Fred Herzog. I have always liked the way Kodachrome film looks so I attempted to re-create that feel with my digital system.

Xochimilco
About an hour or so drive south of Mexico City there is an amazing, quiet borough called Xochimilco. There you can hire a beautiful little boat with captain and cruise around on the crowded canals taking in a favorite local past time. Many families from the city spend hours leisurely floating around while picnicking, drinking and enjoying the incredible musicians who come up along side your vessel and serenade. It really is an awesome place. Here are a few photos

Skate
We went to have a look at the World Cup Short Track Speed Skating Competition that was held here in Vancouver on October 26, 2008. A good chance to see what the Olympic Games might be like. Lots of excited international fans, tonnes of athletes and a few decent photo opportunities. I have never really shot much in the way of sports photography so this seemed like a great opportunity to give it a try. Needless to say the upcoming Winter Olympics should be a lot of fun.

BA Marketplaces
In Buenos Aires I saw some pretty great marketplaces and old shopping malls. Here is a short series of Kodachrome photographs from the Mercado de San Telmo, a turn of the century market in San Telmo and the very bizarre Galeria Bond Street in the Barrio Norte neighborhood.
